Tunisian Karim Jabbari is an abstract calligraphy and lightgraff artist whose work is inspired by antiquated Arabic scriptures. His abstracted form of calligraphy creates compositions of classic Kufi and Maghrebi text, reflecting his North African background and his desire to help keep dying traditions alive. Jabbari’s lightgraff work articulates his love of Arabic letters, words, and syllables. Using an SLR camera and a flashlight, he captures a calligraphy of light that hangs in a space like an artwork. Jabbari travelled to Western Australia in early 2016 for FORM’s PUBLIC festival.
